Please don't make the mistake of confusing Gabor Steingart's drivel with what Germans actually think about Obama's victory. Steingart is the resident correspondent for SPIEGEL in the US, and he's been part of the US MSM canon for ages. Which means that he's been flat-out wrong about nearly all issues in the recent past and peddling the canon beltway wisdom with a delay of 1-2 weeks. His opinions are NOT representative of what Germans really think.

You want to know what that would be? Let me tell you that when I went to work today, some co-workers greeted me with sleepy eyes. Like me, they woke up around 5am in the German morning to watch the Iowa caucus results on TV. Before I could say anything, they smiled and one told me "hey, looks like the nightmare in America is about to end after all", while the other one chimed in "thank god, now let's just hope that he makes his way through".

Think about that in a calm minute, some regular Germans getting up at night to watch the results of a single US caucus. THIS is what real Germans think about it. We want theĀ  real America back. Badly. And with Obama, it might just happen.
