Anbar: Another Take

A reader who says he has deployed twice to Iraq writes:

Regarding your post on the recent success in Anbar - while the cooperation with Sunni tribal leaders there is having the immediate effect of finding an ally to battle AQI, the likely second order effect is that we are arming a sectarian group that is at considerable odds with the federal, Shia-dominated government.  When we leave, they will oppose each other.

I think the president's response to that is: what you mean "when we leave"?
