The Wall Street bailout killed the Democrats, Eliot Spitzer writes in Slate. There are a few reasons why it's a strange statement. First, the Wall Street bailout was passed in 2008, a month before the 2008 election. Second, if TARP killed the Democrats, it even killed the Democrats who voted against the Wall Street bailout.
Of the 64 GOP pickup seats projected by RealClearPolitics, nine are occupied by Democrats who voted no on the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, and another 17 were freshman representatives who were elected the month after TARP (AKA the Wall Street bailout bill) was passed.
