There's a lot a company can do to make its customers hate it -- from bad service, to high prices, to invasion of privacy. But what can it do to win their approval?

The American Customer Satisfaction Index compiles the results of customer service surveys to produce a ranking of companies' approval. The top firms come from different industries -- perhaps with a bias towards cars and consumer disposable goods. Still, as the vast differences in the products show, there is no secret formula for consumer success. Just hard work, focus on service, and a quality product.

Below are the 19 companies that Americans like the most.
