The majority of you were skeptical that McDonald's plan to pay 50,000 new hires $518 million in wages would have any measurable impact on the economy. So were we, since the jobs will only generate $54 million in new payroll taxes. Credit commenter Ms. Pillowbottom with crunching the numbers and finding the long-term problem with adding 50,000 low-paying jobs.
$518 million more in wages and salaries to hire 50k people... That works out to, let's see, about $10,000 dollars/person being hired. That's going to generate payroll taxes? I'm thinking these future employees are going to be in need of public assistance..
